Au début du vingtième siècle, la Canadian Pacific Railway fonde la Princess Line qui atteindra vite 32 vapeurs en service sur la côte ouest de l'Amérique du Nord. La plupart de ses liners servirent sur la fameuse "triangle Route" entre Vancouver Island et Victoria au Canada et Seattle aux USA. SS Princess Marguerite (1925) et SS Princess Marguerite II (1948), présenté sur le timbre ci-dessus dans les années 1975, furent les plus fameux de ces petits liners de luxe.
After 1900, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) built up its Princess Line, the pride of the Pacific Northwest coastal service, to a fleet of 32 steamships. Most Princess Liners plied the famed “Triangle Route” between Vancouver, Victoria, and Seattle, but some sailed north, servicing isolated ports on Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland all the way to the Alaska Panhandle. Le Royal Mail Ship RMS Segwun est le plus ancien vapeur encore en service en Amérique du Nord. Il a été construit en 1887 pour le service du lac Muskoka dans l'Ontario. Il continue à balader des touristes sur le lac dont il est la meilleure attraction.
