Il est acheté en janvier 1912 par la compagnie de navigation Paquet (CNP) pour le service du Maroc et devient Chaouia. Il inaugure le service rapide Marseille - Tanger - Casablanca. C'est le premier navire à deux cheminées de la compagnie.
